Ionia Sentinel Standard, 7 Nov 1986

John I. Northrup, 70, of 618 Prospect St., Ionia, died Wednesday, at Butterworth
Hospital in Grand Rapids.  He was born Feb. 5, 1916, in Ionia, the son of Otto
and Delta Witzel Northrup.  He attended Ionia Public Schools.  He married Marie
V. Harrison on Oct. 25, 1941 in Ionia.

He was a retiree of Fisher Body of Lansing with 37 years of service.  He was an
occasional bartender for the Ionia Country Club and the Elks club.  A member of
the original Civilian Conservation Corps, he served with the corps in 1934 and
1935.  Since 1973, he was the night security supervisor for the Ionia Free Fair
Association.  A lifetime member of the Elks Club, he was a World War II veteran
and a member of the Michigan Chapter, 88th Infantry Division Association.

Surviving are his wife, Marie; two daughters, Mrs. Joyce (Judy) Hines of Cape
Canaveral, Fla., Connie Glynn of Eaton Rapids; three grandchildren; three
sisters, Margaret Kukielka of Grand Ledge, Mary Ellen Jeffery and Beatrice
Davis, both of Ionia; three brothers, Lawrence and James Northrup, both of Ionia
and Richard Northrup of Woodland; several nieces and nephews.  

Funeral services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Rich Street Chapel of the
Montgomery Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Balcom Cemetery, with the Rev.
Kenneth Harger officiating.  The family will be at the funeral home Friday from
2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 8:30 p.m.  Ionia Elks will visit the funeral home in a
group at 7 p.m. Friday.  A memorial has been established for the Michigan Heart
Association.
