Ionia Sentinel Standard, 19 May 1961

Elmdale – Burial rites were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Mapes funeral
home of Sunfield for Adelbert Lewis Northrup, 94.  He was born in Danby
township, June 5, 1866 and was the son of George and Fidelia Northrup.  He died
at the farm home in Sebewa township Sunday, May 10.  Had he lived until June 5,
he would have been 95.  He was united in marriage October 17, 1894 to Martha
Belle Gibbs of Sebewa township.  She died in 1944.

Rev. Carrick of Sunfield was the officiating clergyman at the chapel, after
which the remains were taken to the East Sebewa cemetery for burial.  The
Masonic Chapter No. 31 of Portland, conducted the burial rites, Mr. Northrup
having been a Masonic member for 69 years.

His only survivors are cousins.  Farming had been his life’s occupation, and he
had resided on the farm where he passed away since the age of two.
