He was born July 7, 1880, near Whites Bridge, south of Smyrna, the son of Albert and Jennie Norton, and lived in the neighborhood of Smyrna all his life. He was married March 9, 1904 to Lean Smith of Orleans. He was a farmer and before buying his home in the village of Smyrna, owned a farm in the Bartonville district. Mr. Norton had a jovial, friendly disposition and everyone he knew was his friend. He was a member of the Social club and Fairview Farmers club. During the war he worked in the factories in this city. Left to mourn their loss are his wife and one brother, Earl of Smyrna. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:30 at Fitzjohn Funeral Home with Rev. H. S. Ellis officiating. Mrs. Eston Bates was the organist and Harry Treynor sang “Rock of Ages” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Burial was in River Ridge cemetery and pallbearers were Howard Reeves, Royal Davis, Howard Insley, Frank Mattison, Milton Barnes, and John Geiger.
