Bernard E. Nummer, 65, of Ionia, formerly of Lowell, died Oct. 15, 1997 after
fighting a long battle with numerous illnesses.

He was born on March 14, 1932 in Lowell, the son of Fred and Jennie Nummer.  He
was born, raised and farmed in Lowell for 45 years before moving to Ionia in
1979.  He worked at General Tire in Ionia for 20 years.  He was a member of the
Ionia Moose.  He liked to fish, camp, bowl and dance.  He also enjoyed playing
card and horseshoes.  He was a great kidder and loved to be in a crowd of people
laughing.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian; three daughters, Joanne Merklinger of
Walker, Carol (Jack) Rossell of Ionia and Darlene Daul of Belding; 10
grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law,
Ellen and Raymond Kline of Matherton, Ellen Nummer of Lowell, Hazel Nummer of
Lowell and Ona Reed of Matherton; one cousin, Robert Nummer Sr. of Ionia; many
nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  He was preceded in death by five
brothers, two sisters and one granddaughter.

Funeral and committal services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Cook
Funeral Home in Ionia with Rev. Kenneth Harger of the Shiloh Community Church
officiating.  Interment will be in East Plains Cemetery.  Visiting hours are
from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday at the Rich St.
Chapel of Cook Funeral Home in Ionia.  Memorial contributions may be made to
Helping Hands Hospice in care of Cook Funeral Home in Ionia.
