She attended Coon, Loomis and graduated from 8th grade from the Benedict School in Ionia. She attended Ionia High School graduating in 1942. She worked at the Ionia High School Office and then worked for W.C. Cribbs and A.A. Griffith in the Ionia County Extension Office at the Court House where she assisted with 4-H work when the agent in charge of 3 counties had to be at another destination. She graduated from Michigan State College (now MSU) in Home Economics. After being in 4-H sewing for 10 years, she taught girls in Portland how to sew from her home, often into the wee hours of the morning to finish an outfit for the style show the next day. The year the Free Fair was cancelled she was one of the leaders who begged for money to keep the interest up for 4-H in the County. She was also able to acquire a Carnival for this occasion. She was Secretary of the Home & School Assoc. of St. Patrick's Church in Portland and Ionia County Extension President of Groups. She was president of the American Legion Auxiliary Dale E. Hyland post #129 of Portland for many years. She was on the Portland Federal Credit Union Board of Directors for 40 years retiring in 2007. She served as Secretary, Treasury, Vice President and President on that board. She worked at for Valley City Milling Co. in Portland and then retired from Barley Earhart Co. of Portland after 32 years. She married Robert Densmore Sr. of Portland on September 22, 1945, he preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 1971. She then married Elmer Nurenberg on Aug. 22, 1974 and he preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 1996. Also preceding her was daughter Kayla, daughter-in-law; Marian Densmore, step sons: Larry and Leon Nurenberg. She is survived by her children; Bobby Densmore, Toni (Larry) Blundy of Portland and Karen (Roger) Keefer of Sunfield. She is survived by 9 grand children: Brandi (Andy) VanDuesen and Craig (Tonia) Moe, Heather (Jeff) Cooper and Heath (Jenny) Werner, Amy Bissell (Bob Taylor), Christy (Dean) Slack, Andy (Theresa) Densmore, Jennifer (Brendan) Pohl and Josh (Rachel) Blundy, 13 great grandchildren: Claire and Cal Cooper, Grant, Breckyn and Gavin Werner, Donnie and Mia Slack, Reese and Torie Moe, Harper Bissell-Taylor, Spencer and Sophia Pohl, Hunter, Gabe and Reagan Blundy; 2 sisters, Wilna Perry of Flint and Mary Ann Keast of Hastings & Texas; brother-in-law and many nieces & nephews; Step sons: Bruce (Lucy) Nurenberg, Alan (Mary) Nurenberg of Westphalia, Ken (Marlene) Nurenberg of Sunfield, Joyce Kennedy (Ken Shumnuick), Step daughter- in-laws; Gladys Heckman of Westphalia & Sara Nurenberg of St. Johns, 12 step- grandchildren and many step-great grandchildren. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 9, 2013 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Rev. Larry King, presiding. Rite of Committal followed at Portland Cemetery. The family received friends 7-9 p.m., Saturday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Lehman Funeral Homes, 210 E. Bridge St. Portland. The rosary was prayed at 8 p.m. Sunday.
