Lake Odessa Wave - Times - April 21, 1911
   John Nye was born in Warren County Ohio, April 16, 1824, and departed this life
April 17, 1911 aged 87 years 
and 1 day.
   At the age of 16 he moved with his parents to Montgomery Co. the same state.  He
lived there until Oct. 10 
1844 when he was united in marriage to Catherine A. Griggs to which union were born
11 children, seven of 
whom still live,  Grandville Nye, 2 miles west of this village; Mrs. Elizabeth Smith
of Fowler, Clinton, Co; 
Sullivan Nye St. Joseph Baeeian Co; Hamilton Nye Blanchard, this state;  Mrs. Emma
Tasker, wife of Chas. 
Tasker of this village and Mrs. Laura Swartout wife of Thomas Swartout north of
town, and Will Nye one mile 
west of town with whom the deceased lived up to the time of his death.
   About 36 years ago he came to Ionia Co. settling on the farm now occupied by his
youngest son William and 
was resident of this county from that time on.
   In early life he was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church on
the Pokagon circuit, near 
Niles; 26 years ago he transferred his membership to the Methodist Episcopal church
of Lake Odessa 
continuing in harmonious relations with the same until he was called to his reward.
   He was a kindly disposition, full of good cheer, and with his children there are
left a large circle of warm 
friends and acquaintances who will miss him.  "The memory of the just is blessed"
   The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church conducted by
Elder Mourer, a long time 
friend, assisted by the pastor Rev. Laity and interment was made in Lakeside
cemetery.  Thus passes from our 
midst a man well ripened in years and well beloved by all.
