All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Patricia Currigan currigan1932@comcast.net October 7, 2022, 1:06 pm Lake Odessa Wave-Times December 22, 1911 GRANDVILLE NYE PASSES TO HOME IN GREAT BEYOND Had been practically Helpless For nearly Two years, with Locomotor Ataxia Last Friday Grandville Nye, who had been in poor health at his home just west of town for the past two years and half being a nearly helpless invalid during the last two years, passed to the great beyond.Altho he was generally known to be very low life had stayed b hm fr so long that when death claimed him, the community as well a the relatives were greatly shocked and as much grieved to have so good a neighbor and townsman be taken away. the real cause of his death was known as Locomotor ataxia or a form of paralysis which had gained such possession over him that he could help himself but little and then only when in his chair, so that altho he leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn their loss, it was conceded that he could never recover. OBITUARY Grandville Nye was born in Warren Co.,Ohio July 1st 1845 and died at his home in Odessa Dec, 15th, 1911 at the age of 66 years 5 months and 14 days. He moved to Niles, Mich. with his parents when only a small child where he lived until manhood. In Dec.1866 he was married to Nancy E.Brown and moved to Carlton where they made a home out of the wilderness. To this union were born four children, Frank of Lake City, Mrs.Cora Curtis of Kalamo, Mrs. Myrtie Klahn of Elmdale and Alton of this village. In 1879 he moved to his late home which he also improve from a rough stumpy farm to one of the best. Dec. 9th 1882 his wife died and two years later was married to Mrs.Alice Meyers of Woodland, to this union was born one child Letha who with her mother, brothers and sisters and his two step sons, William and Floyd Meyers are left to mourn their loss. He was converted in early life and was a member of the U.B.church for many years. He died in the faith of God. In early life he was religiously inclined; living under the influence of a religious grand father he was led to seek the Lord in early life and from these sacred and hallowed influences he never parted. He was a good kind neighbor and will be missed by all who knew him. The funeral services were conducted by i.H. Mourer assisted by the Pastor Rev.Laity. The music was furnished by a quartette composed of Mesdames Thos. Johnson and A.J. Dann and Messre E.C. Tew and Stanley W.Dann. Burial was made in Lakeside cemetery.
