             NYLAND

Gretchen Ann Nyland age 84, of Orleans passed away may 20, 2024. She was born 
March 7, 1940 in East Tawas, Michigan the daughter of Roland W. and Gayle B.
(Hough) Grein.

Gretchen grew up in Saranac, attending Saranac Community Schools, graduating 
with the Class of 1958. She then went to henry Ford Nursing School in Detroit 
where she received her degree as a RN.

Gretchen married William G. Nyland September 23, 1961, in Ionia at St.John's 
Lutheran Church.She worked as school nurse at Saranac Community Schools for 20 
years and later at Belding Community Schools for 20 years. Gretchen also coached 
at girls Basketball in Saranac.

She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Belding. Past President of 
Ionia Association of retired School personnel. Mid-±State health Network Board 
for 10 years and Ionia County Community Health for 38 years.

Gretchen enjoyed gardening, traveling, baking, and going to car shows with Bill 
in their Henry J and tear drop trailer.She loved winters in Lake Havasu, 
Arizona. Gretchen was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone.

Surviving is her loving husband of 62 years Bill Nyland of Orleans. Sister Susan 
Smith of Fort Gratiot, Michigan.

Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held at the Lake Funeral 
Home in Ionia, Thursday May 30, 2024, at 4 p.m. with Pastor Robert Wagner 
officiating. There will be a visitation on Thursday from 2 p.m. until the time 
of services. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the family's
