ALICE NYE [Obituary from scrapbook of Don Myers, Blanchard, MI, April 1989] ODESSA PIONEER MRS. NYE IS DEAD Aged Resident Passes Away at Home of Daughter; Had Been School Teacher One of the pioneer residents of Odessa township passed away recently when the death of Mrs. Alice Nye occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Shumway, near Lake Odessa. She was 73 years and 16 days old. Her young life was spent near the home of her birth, always being especially interested in educational and church affairs. She taught in the rural schools for many years and in 1871 was married to Edward Myers. To this union three children were born, Floyd, William and Glenn. The latter dying in childhood. Her companion passed to the great beyond after 11 years of married life. In 1883 she was married to Granville Nye and moved to his home near Lake Odessa. To this union one child was born, Letha, with whom she has lived for several years. Again the death angel came and took away her mate after having lived happily together for twenty-six years. Since the death of her late husband she had spent a part of her life in Nashville, Blanchard and Alma and just recently moved back near Lake Odessa, where she spent several years, but the end came without warning, pneumonia being the direct cause. From early childhood she has been a church worker, being a member of the United Brethren church a greater part of her life. She was of a kind and loving disposition, always making friends and scattering sunshine in her pathway. She is survived by two children, Floyd Myers of Blanchard and Mrs. John Shumway of this place. William Myers, preceded her a year ago, three step children, Mrs. Charles Klahn of Clarksville, Mrs. Levi Curtis of Charlotte and Alton Nye of Lake Odessa, besides a host of friends to mourn their loss. ------ Alice (Wheeler) born 1851 and died April 10, 1925 1st husband Edward S.
