Ionia Sentinel Standard, 10 Apr 1978

Gladys O’Beirne, 80, of route one, Charles road, died Saturday morning at a Belding
nursing home.  She was born December 7, 1897 in Berlin township, Ionia county, the
daughter of Arnold and Adelle Boyd O’Beirne and was a graduate of Ionia high school,
Ionia County Normal, Western Michigan University and received graduate degrees from
the University of Chicago and Columbia University.

Miss O’Beirne taught for 45 years in public schools in Michigan and Ohio, retiring
from the Forest Hill school system in 1966.  She was a member of North Plains
Community church, the Michigan and National Education Associations, Ionia County
Retired Teachers’ Association, Grand Valley Rock and Mineral Society and the Grand
Rapids Audubon club.

Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Marvin (Lucy) Blanchard of Ionia and several
nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Hull Memorial chapel with Rev.
Norman Mincemoyer of North Plains Community church officiating.  Miss O’Beirne had
donated her body to the Michigan State University medical school.  A memorial fund
is established for North Plains Community church, the Grand Valley Rock and Mineral
Society and the Grand Rapids Audubon club.
