The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Thursday, May 16, 1968

Major Nelson Boyd O’Beirne, 52, passed away May 10 in Florida after a long 
illness.  Funeral services were in Florida Saturday and interment was Tuesday, 
May 14, in Arlington cemetery near his three young sons who were suffocated in 
a fire about 10 years ago in army barracks at Lockbourne Air Base, Columbus, 
Ohio.  

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, a brother, Scott of San Mateo, Calif. and 
several cousins.  Mrs. Myrtle Klahn, a cousin, Mrs. Jessie Cahoon of Saranac 
and Scott O’Beirne attended the military services in Arlington.  Boyd was an 
army pilot in World War II and flew many missions over Europe and for a time 
was stationed in Japan.
