February 1, 2020 Excerpts from Obituary: ROY FLOYD OBERG of Rockford Died January 31, 2020-age 93, in Grand Rapids, Mich. Born 1927 son of Adolph and Marie (Sohlberg) Oberg in Ionia, Mich. Roy served as an Aviator in the U.S. Navy. Employed as a Manager for Michigan Bell for thirty-six years. Lifelong member of EAA, also had a passion for airplanes & aviation. Did his solo flight at age 12 & built his own experimental airplane from blueprints. Survived by his wife Marjorie for 54 years, children, Christopher (Tammy) Oberg, Jeff (Kathy) Oberg, Denise (Kent) Ruesch, 9 grandchildren, 3 great- grandchildren, sister-in-law, Joyce Oberg & many nieces & nephews. Preceded in death by his parent: son, Charles Oberg, brothers, Sigurd Oberg & Herb Oberg. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Pederson Funeral Home, Monroe St. NE, Rockford, Mich. Visitation from 11:30-1:00 p.m. before the service. Burial will be at Lilley Cemetery at a later date. Memorial are suggested to the non-profit organization of West Michigan Flight Academy, 9100 Vinton Ave, NW, Sparta, MI 49345 for Youth Aviation.
