He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Oberlin and was born near Blanchard in Isabella county, Mich. With his parents he came to this city eight years ago. Wilber had been a frail child since infancy, and the affliction was of such a nature that he could not outgrow it although given careful attention by his parents. Recently he was taken worse and his physician, Dr. Litle, saw that an operation for appendicitis must be performed at once. The operation took place at the hospital Saturday, January 15, and he survived until the following Wednesday. A postmortem revealed the fact of serious complication of liver and stomach difficulties, gangrene having developed. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at one o’clock at the home of his bereaved parents, where a large number of the neighbors and friends and about twenty-five relatives from out-of-town were in attendance. Rev. C. M. Pease of the Church of Christ officiated and spoke comforting words to the sorrowing parents and relatives from the text, “Let us go also that we may die with Him.” The singing was by Mr. Wesley Bussell and Mr. Norman Johnson. Many beautiful flowers from friends and a floral wreath and spray from the warpers and spoolers of the silk mill covered the casket. Besides his parents he leaves four brothers and three sisters—Orrin Oberlin of Grand Rapids; Austin of Lansing; Otto and Walter of this city; and Eva, Goldie and Gladys Oberlin. His four cousins—Ray, Bernie, Chauncey and Clifford Oberlin were the pallbearers who laid his body to rest in River Ridge cemetery.
