When about 16 years old he enlisted in the war then raging between France and Italy. He was away about 20 years and on returning home found his father, brothers and sister had gone to America, he followed them landing in Saranac in the spring of 1871 engaging in a boot and shoe making. In 1875 he was united in marriage to Miss Susan Walter. Three children were born to this union Samuel G. of Detroit, Mary E., who preceded him to the great beyond twelve years ago and Howard W. now of Woodland. In 1878 he purchased a farm in Berlin township. Five years later he purchased the present farm home. He leaves to mourn their loss the grief stricken widow, two sons, and a sister in New York, a host of other relatives and a wide circle of friends. The funeral was held Wednesday with prayer at the house in the morning and the remains were then taken to Saranac where the funeral service was held from the M.E. Church conducted by the Rev. George. Interment was in Saranac cemetery.
