When he was 8 years old, with his sister, Mrs. Nancy Sargent, who was 3 years his junior and who preceded him to the great beyond, emigrated to America with their father (their mother having died some years before.) Locating first in northern New York. At the early age of 18 his country called for him, and he enlisted in the 11th Pa. Cavalry, serving until the close of the war. After the war he returned to Michigan, first to Hastings then to Saranac where his brother Joseph, and he, engaged in the shoe business for nearly 30 years. After the death of his brother, he engaged in business for himself continuing the repairing of boots and shoes. Through honesty and business integrity he built up a good business for himself. After years of ill health, Mr. Oberson was compelled to dispose of his boot and shoe interests and resort to an outdoor life which might have tendency to build up his health and undoubtedly did. Mr. Oberson had been a great sufferer for over 30 years, scarcely ever seeing a well day, but bearing up faithfully to the end. In 1876, he was united in marriage to Emma May Roberts, three children were born to them, Charles Franklin, Elizabeth May, and Frank Truman. He leaves to mourn his loss, the grief stricken widow, three children, one brother, John, of Lake Odessa, one sister, Mrs. Mary Collins, of Carthage, N.Y., and a wide circle of friends and comrades. He was ever a faithful husband and father, a man of deep sterling character. He was a member of Heil P. Clar?? Post, G.A.R., who had charge of the funeral services, conducted by Rev. F. E. George, at the Methodist church, Thursday afternoon. Interment in Saranac cemetery.
