Pierce O’Connor Killed Instantly. Brother Escapes With Injuries. Truck and Cargo a Loss. Pierce O’Connor, 33, of Lake Odessa, was killed outright at about 3:45 o’clock this, Thursday, morning when the truck he was driving on US-16 crashed into a tree at the side of the highway about four miles west of Howell. A brother, Fred, 18, who was accompanying him received minor cuts and bruises only. According to the brother, O’Connor, who was taking a load of eggs to the Detroit market for Alva Tingley, was blinded by the lights from an oncoming car and when he turned out to pass, the truck went off the pavement and before he could get it under control again it had hit the tree. The truck and cargo were almost completely demolished. O’Connor, who has been in the employee of the Tingley poultry, egg and cream business for the past two years, left here on his trip to Detroit at about midnight. He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Letha O’Connor, a year old daughter Carol, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. O’Connor who live about five miles west of Lake Odessa and several brothers. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
