O’Connor, 76, of 517 West Lincoln avenue, died Sunday afternoon at Ionia County Memorial hospital. He had been a patient there three weeks. He was born June 26, 1890, in Chicago, the son of Daniel and Honora O’Shea O’Connor. He was to celebrate his 77th birthday Monday. A World War I navy veteran, he served as ship’s cook, third class. After his time in the service, he came to Ionia in the fall of 1917 and July 20, 1920 married the former Lottie Capwell at the SS. Peter and Paul church in Ionia. In 1929 he opened a grocery store and gas station at the corner of M66 and M21 and remained active in the business until his retirement in 1955. Survivors are his wife, Lottie, two sons, Rex and John both of Ionia; a daughter, Honora O’Connor of Rochester; and a cousin, Katherine Moriarty of Grand Rapids. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul parish and life member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus. Services will be Wednesday at 10 at the Catholic church and rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the funeral home Monday and Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. to receive friends and relatives.
