Olmstead, 88, of Portland died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001. Born Sept. 29, 1913, to Mary (Crittenden) and Fay Olmstead of Portland. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Deldee Thomson Olmstead in 1982. He married Florence Browning Dunham in 1984. Robert graduated from Portland High School, attended Michigan State University, was a member of the Portland Congregational Church, Trustee Emeritus, past master of the Masonic Lodge, member of the Portland Historical Society, chairman of the Light and Power Board for the City of Portland, past president of the Great Lansing Ostomy Association and member of the Board of the Keefer-Olmstead Cemetery. He retired from the State Public Health Department as the Institutional Plant Superintendent in 1978. Surviving are his wife, Florence; children, Gail (Bob) Riley of Charlotte, Gary (Michelina) Olmstead of Pennsylvania, Ross (Diane Suppes) Olmstead of Ionia, Deborah (Mike) Lorichon of Portland, Becky Dunham of Portland and Durk Dunham of Battle Creek; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday at Portland Congregational Church, 421 Bridge St., Portland, with the Rev. Marilyn Danielson and Rev. Robert Nixon officiating. Interment will follow in Keefer-Olmstead Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. The family is being served by the Gorsline-Runciman Co., Portland.
