The Ionia Standard, Thursday, March 30, 1876

In the death of C. W. Olmstead, Esq., on Friday last, our community lost one 
of its ablest and most influential citizens.  He was born in New Canaan, 
Conn., September 22, 1814, where he lived until 1834, or about that date, when 
he came to Michigan and settled at Salem, whence he removed to Bushnell about 
the year 1848 or ’49 where he engaged in farming.  He came to Lyons in 1862, 
and in January, 1865, he removed to this village where he resided until his 
death.
