Esther Alice Olmstead, aged 94 of Belding, died Friday evening, December 26, 
2003 at United Memorial Health Center in Greenville.  She was born on December 
3, 1909 in Ionia, the daughter of Earl and Edna Brown Kanouse.  Esther was a 
past member of the Orleans Grange and attended Shiloh Community Church.  

She was married on November 21, 1933 in Ionia to Merton R. Olmstead, and he 
preceded her in death on March 18, 1990.  She was also preceded by her 
parents, four sisters and three brothers.  Esther is survived by her son and 
daughter-in-law, Carl and Sharon Olmstead of Belding; her grandchildren, 
Brenda and Charles Rockafellow, Michael and Sharon Olmstead, LeAnn and Paul 
Johnson and James and Becky Olmstead.  Esther is also survived by ten great-
grandchildren and two sisters, Gertie Smalley of Sparta and Betty Laney of 
Washington state.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral 
Home, Belding with Pastor Kendall Harger of Shiloh Community Church 
officiating.  Visitation was held yesterday at the funeral home.  Interment 
will be in Orleans Township Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be given to 
the Alvah N. Belding Library.
