For years the ring of Mr. Olmstead’s anvil was heard as he pounded out shoes for horses of many prominent farmers in Ionia County. For the past two years he had been unable to conduct his business. Following a stroke two years ago he was forced to give up his business. Some time after he suffered the stroke it was found that Mr. Olmstead was also suffering from cancer. He was 71 years of age. He is survived by his widow, one son, Howard Olmstead, who is a buttermaker at the Saranac Creamery; two daughters, Mrs. Naomi Longwell of Saranac, and Mrs. Hattie Stair, of Grand Rapids. An adopted daughter, Mrs. Lena Fletcher, also lives at Saranac. At 2 o’clock Friday afternoon the funeral service will be held from the residence in Saranac. Burial will be made in the Saranac cemetery.
