Olmsted, 78, of 4392 Charles Road, Ionia died Monday at his residence. He was born April 19, 1913 in Garden, Mich., the son of Alton and Phebe Squires Olmsted. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married the former Ruth Lowery, October 1964, in Detroit. He was employed at a machine shop in Detroit and for the City of Detroit. He retired in 1975 and moved to Ionia. He was a member of the Shiloh Community Church and the American Legion in Detroit. He is survived by his wife; three sons; Robert of Shallow Water, Texas and Ralph of Apple Valley, California, and Gardner of Romulus; three daughters; Ruth Dotson of Taylor and Judy Meadows and Sandra Baggett of Melvindale, Michigan; one stepdaughter, Nancy Joyce of Dallas, Georgia; one sister, Shirley Johnson of Livonia; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. One daughter and one son preceded him in death. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Shiloh Community Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. Burial will be in Palo Cemetery. The family will be at the Hull Memorial Chapel in Muir all day Wednesday. A memorial has been established for the Shiloh Community Church, in care of the funeral home.
