Andrew was born on August 21, 1926, the son of Andrew,Sr., and Sarah Sophia in Port Allegany, Pennsylvania. After graduating high school in Pennsylvania, Andy enlisted in the Navy Reserve to serve his country during World War II. He was assigned to the USS Norton Sound, a seaplane tender that participated in the Battle of Okinawa and then helped return US soldiers home once VJ Day was declared.By the time his enlistment ended in 1952, he went to college on the GI Bill and earned a promotion to Lieutenant. He proudly graduated from Bucknell University in 1949, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. He used this degree to begin working at RCA in the accounting department, before transitioning to Sales and ending his highly successful career as an executive with the company. Andrew married the love of his life, Elaine, in 1954, and their only daughter Jan was born in 1955. Andrew enjoyed golfing, proudly displaying his hole-in-one commemorations in the farmhouse kitchen. He liked following the stock market, and spent much of his time tracing his genealogy back to distant cousins in Sweden. But Andy's favorite pastime was his open-door policy. whether he was wintering in Sun City West, Arizona or on the farm, anyone was welcome as long as they knocked hard enough on the door. He enjoyed talking about anything to anyone; newcomers were always asked where they were from and who they were related to, and Grandpa showed a keen interest in their occupations and lives. He also loved taking care of the farm; mowing the property and giving tours of all the buildings were a highlight of his day. The farm is quieter without his presence now. Andrew was preceded in death by his loving parents Andrew and Sara Olson; adored wife, Elaine, daughter, Jan Olson; brother, Eric Olson; and Sister Margaret Bright. He is survived by his grandsons, Matt (Rachel) Villa of Palatine, Illinois; and Jeff (Kelly) Vella of Lexington, Kentucky; his three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Millie, and Olivia; as well as numerous nieces nephews, cousins and extended family throughout the Midwest. A time for visiting and sharing memories will be held from 11:0 PM, followed by a short memorial service on Saturday,September 17th, at the Lake Funeral Home in Saranac. A private graveside service will take place at the Saranac Cemetery. Online Condolences can be made at www.lakefuneralhomes.com.
