Ionia Sentinel-Standard - Sat. July 7, 2012

Richard John O'Malley, M.D., 81 of Ionia passed away July 5, 2012. Born in Bay 
City, the son of John Joyce and Claudia M. (Laveque) O'Malley. 

He married Margaret Bowler, Aug. 7, 1954 in Grand Rapids. RJ earned an 
Undergraduate at Aquinas in Grand Rapids, a Master of Physiology from 
University of Michigan, and a Doctor of Medicine from Wayne State University. 
RJ opened his first medical practice in Ionia in 1962, practicing family 
medicine (delivering more than 1,000 babies by 1979) until his retirement in 
2003.

He was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ionia. He was also a 
member of American Medical Association & Michigan State Medical Society.

RJ is survived by is loving wife of 57 years, Margaret O'Malley of Ionia; 
children, Michael O'Malley of Lansing, Maureen (Robert) Sweeney of St. Ignace, 
Colleen (Andrew) Martin of Ionia, Timothy (Tasha) O'Malley of McBain, Sean 
(Ruth Purkey) O'Malley of Lowell, and Cathleen (Matthew) Chojnacki of 
Clarkston; and grandchildren, Patrick, Molly, Benjamin, Nicholas, Matthew, 
Klaudia, Keegan, Maggie and Lauren. 

He was preceded in death by two sisters. 

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2012 at SS Peter & 
Paul Catholic Church with Father Thomas Boufford officiating. The family will 
receive friends and relatives 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lake Funeral Home in 
Ionia.
