She was born OCt.&, 1920, the daughter of Frank and Emma (Endres) O'Mara. She is survived by her brother Eugene and SistersPauline (Kenneth) Hubbard and Rosemary Hickey; sister-in-law Ruth O'Mara and Norma O'Mara; 30 nieces and nephews: 70 great nieces and nephews; 31 great-great-nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Lawrence and Thomas, niece Susan Csonka (O'Mara), sister-in-law Mary O'Mara, and brother-in-law James Hickey. Marie attended Limerick Rural School, Lake Odessa High School, and Western Michigan University where she received her bachelors and masters degree. Her advanced education was at the university of Colorado, University of Michigan and Michigan State University.Her teaching career spanned 36 years, where she taught in Ionia, Cass and Calhoon Counties. Marie retired in 1976. ąShe was a member of MEA and NEA, Lake Odessa and WMU Alumni Associations The Abe Theta Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Rural Teachers Association. Marie received Teacher of the Year in 1961, Who's Who American Teachers 1975 and Delta Kappa Gamma Woman of distinction Award. Dedications include Young Author book and Middle School Yearbook. Marie was a member of St.Marys Church in Marshall where she was involved in Altar Society and St.Ann's Guild.Charter member of Edward's Church in Lake Odessa and member of SS.Peter & Paul in Ionia She was an avid sports enthusiast and loved Notre Dame.She was very proud of her former students, her family and her Irish heritage.She will be sadly missed by her family and extended family. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am.Tuesday at the SS.Peter & Paul with Rev.Tom Boufford celebrant.Interment Lakeside Cemetery in Lake Odessa. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 p.m and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia and at 10a.m. Tuesday until the time of service. There will be a scripture service at 7:30 pm. Monday. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Marshall Community Foundation Scholarship, Lake Odessa Community foundation Scholarship or Ionia Area Hospice.
