James O誰eil Is Victim of Sad Accident

The community around Hubbardston was horrified last Saturday afternoon at the
accidental shooting to death of James O誰eil of Lansing, a former Hubbardston boy
and a soldier of the World War.  

Mr. O誰eil had gone hunting with a party of friends and in trying to dig a rabbit
out of a hole picked up his gun, which he had laid aside, by the muzzle, the
supposition being that the lock became caught in the long grass, pulling back the
hammer sufficiently to discharge the weapon.

The force of the charge tore a gaping wound in the young man痴 side, and although he
was immediately taken to the farm home of Clyde Jaquish and medical aid summoned,
death came a scant two hours later.  The accident happened near the Jaquish home,
four miles east of Hubbardston and was the fatal ending of a hunting trip that the
unfortunate young man had planned for some time.

Mr. O誰eil was well known in Hubbardston, where he was born and raised, his parents
being Mr. and Mrs. Owen O誰eil of that village.  For several months he had lived at
Lansing, having married since returning from service.  He leaves a wife and a two
months old baby.

The remains were removed from the Jaquish home to that of his parents and funeral
services conducted Tuesday morning from St. John痴 Catholic church, Rev. Fr.
McCormick officiating at a requiem high Mass.  Interment as made in the church
cemetery at that place.

Besides the wife and daughter he leaves his parents, two sisters and four brothers,
all of them residing at Hubbardston, with the exception of a brother, Charles, of
Lansing.
