Mrs. Orth has been in feeble health a number of years and for the past three months has been seriously ill. Deceased was born in Wurtenburg, Germany, in 1813. At the age of 18 she moved with her parents to Philadelphia, where she met and married Mathias Orth, now deceased. In 1864 they journeyed to Ionia county, which has since been their home. In 1882 Mr. and Mrs. Orth celebrated their golden wedding anniversary and at that time no happier or livelier couple could have been found. Only a few years later death parted the old couple, since which time Mrs. Orth has made her home with her several daughters who reside in the city. She was the mother of eight children, six of whom survive—Caroline, widow of Jacob Schmoltz, deceased, of this city; Jacob G. Orth, a farmer of Ronald; Mrs. Elizabeth Zank; Agnes S., wife of Julius Taubert, of this city; Louis P. Orth, of Nebraska, and Charles Orth, of Florida. The funeral will be held on Friday afternoon at the residence of J. Taubert, West Washington Street. Grandma Orth died at 11:15 Monday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. Taubert. Deceased would have been 88 years of age her next birthday. The funeral will be held from the residence Friday afternoon. Subsequent Publication: Thursday, March 15, 1900 The funeral services for the late Mrs. Caroline Orth, were attended Friday afternoon from the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. Taubert, West Washington street. Rev. W. H. Thomas, D.D., rector of St. Johns church, officiated, and the remains were laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery. The pallbearers were four grandsons, Louis P. Schmoltz, Frank E. Schmoltz, William Orth and Frank Greenhoe. The high esteem in which this good old lady was held was evidenced by the large number of friends and relatives present. As heretofore mentioned, deceased is survived by six of a family of eight children, 24 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and four great great-grandchildren. Four of these five generations were represented at the funeral. Mrs. Jacob Schmoltz has a picture of the five generations, which is treasured highly.
