She had been a patient sufferer for many months but was tenderly cared for and death was relief. Sarah C. Baxter was born September 17, 1846, in Portage County, Ohio, and was one of a family of four children, she being the last survivor. She grew to womanhood in that state and on March 24, 1864, was united in marriage to Frederick Orth. To this home circle came nine children – two sons and seven daughters, two of which have passed away – Effie E. Boltz, December 23, 1910, and Ola O. Herr, February 10, 1920. Mr. and Mrs. Orth came to Ronald township, Ionia county, in 1867 and were actively identified with the interests of that community until their removal here some thirty years ago. The husband and father passed away September 23, 1895, and the family have still made this place their home. Mrs. Orth was an active member of the O.E.S. while living in that township and at the time of her passing was a valued member of the Rebekah lodge, the members of which attended the last services in a body as a mark of respect to a departed sister. She was a loyal friend and kind neighbor and was ever ready to lend a helping hand whenever called upon. The last rites were conducted at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.R. Combs, (with whom she had lived the past year) Friday afternoon at 1:30, conducted by Rev. E.H. Humphrey of the Congregational church and the commitment was read in the North Plains cemetery where she was laid to rest beside the husband of her youth. The floral offerings were beautiful and expressed sympathy of friends for the family in their bereavement. Among those who came to pay their respect for the deceased were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Worfel, of Grand Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Bert W. Edwards, of Traverse City; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kuhl, of Grand Rapids, and Will Orth and son Donald, of Ionia.
