Sarah Sabin was born Aug. 10, 1823, in the town of New Woodstock, N.Y. She was married to Dorr Osgood Oct. 21, 1845, in Conesus, Livingston Co., N.Y. Soon after marriage the couple moved to the township of Oakfield, Kent Co., Mich., then an almost unbroken wilderness, and resided there until Jan. 1864, when they removed to Smyrna, Ionia Co., which has since been their home. Mrs. Osgood was the mother of five children, one of whom, a son, died at the age of two years, and another, daughter, wife of O.N. Peterson, at the age of twenty-four. The others, two daughters and a son, Harry Osgood, with her aged husband, survive her. She united with the Baptist church when a young girl and has ever been a truly christian wife and mother, her greatest comfort consisting in doing and caring for her loved ones. Most true it is that those who knew her best will miss her most. Her health has been such for the last ten years that she was confined mostly to her home, but she was ever mindful of the comfort of others. She departed this life on the morning of Sept. 16, 1899, surrounded by her loved ones, who were permitted to care for her in her last illness. Truly a loved one is gone. One more tie drawing us on to the better land.
