From the Ionia Gazette we learned that on the 28th ult. Mrs. Hannah Osmen, wife of Mr. Wm. Osmen, and daughter of Mr. Rich, all of Smyrna, Ionia county, was burned to death in the most shocking manner, by her clothes taking fire. It is supposed they took fire by sweeping over the stove hearth while she sat at dinner, though the fire was not discovered until the meal was finished and she had stepped into another room. She was alone in the house, except a lame girl, and when she discovered her clothes to be in a flame, she rushed out of the house, crying, “I am all on fire, I am all on fire; what shall I do? what shall I do?” and ran around the house screaming in the most frantic manner, till every particle of clothing had burned, except the belts about the waist and a slight strip between the shoulders, when she fell down upon the ground. She was carried into the house by her husband, assisted by several neighbors, where every possible effort was made to mitigate her sufferings, till death came to her relief, about four hours after her sufferings commenced. The deceased was eighteen years of age, and leaves an infant child.
