Services were held from the Fales-Huffman funeral home in Belding. Pallbearers were Frank Hale, Carl Olmstead, Frank Hill and Jerry Spaulding. The Rev. Thomas Rice officiated with interment in the Orleans Cemetery. Born July 10, 1847 in Glenville, New York, he moved to Ionia County shortly after his marriage to Belle Knapp. First located near Pewamo, in 1880 they moved to Orleans where for many years he operated a blacksmith shop. Part of this time he spent as postmaster with offices in the rear of the shop. His wife died in 1891. His second marriage was to Adele Hayes of Orleans in 1897. For a short time they lived on a farm in Easton and operated a grocery store. Twenty years ago, they returned to Orleans where the second Mrs. Ostrom died in 1930. He was made a life member of the Ionia Masonic lodge in 1927. For sixteen years he served as Orleans township clerk. He was the father of two sons, Fred and Edward, by this first marriage. Surviving are a son, Edward of Orleans and great-granddaughter, Mary K. Foster of Grand Rapids. During his declining years he was cared for by his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Fred Ostrom.
