He was operated on two years ago and had never regained his health. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Luke Otis, and came to Ionia county when three years old. At the age of 15 he began clerking for Captain E. P. Gifford in a grocery store, and worked there four years, then became a clerk in Charles Huhn’s dry- goods and grocery department store where he worked for eight years. He later bought the corner two stores with Levi Vaughn where they operated a grocery store, later Vaughn’s interest was transferred to Dale Jepson and then to Lee Otis. Arden Otis operated the store until three years ago. Not only was he interested in his own store, but he was connected with a bakery and an implement store in Saranac, and had always been active in all activities for improvement of the village. He never married. He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Will Densmore, and Mrs. Mary Crane, of Lansing, and one brother, Amos Otis, of Saranac. He was a member of the Odd Fellow lodge. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the home of his sister, Mrs. Will Densmore. Rev. E. H. Humphreys will conduct the service. Burial at the Saranac cemetery.
