Saranac Farmer Commits Suicide Monday Morning
Frank Ott Found Dead In Home by Floyd and Herman Page

Frank Ott, 81, Saranac, was found dead in his home, one-quarter mile west of the
Waterville School, by Floyd and Herman Page, Rfd., Saranac, about 7:00 p.m. Monday. 
Coroner Dale Kauffman later pronounced the death a suicide.

Ott had been living at the Floyd Page home since June of last year.  Page reported
that Ott left the Page home to go to his own house about 6:30 a.m.  When he had not
returned by evening, Page and his brother investigated.  They discovered that a
window in Ott’s home was covered by a sheet, but they thought they could see him
sitting inside.  They immediately contacted Cecil Morris, Saranac, with whom they
broke into the house. 

Sheriff Ben Neve, Deputy Sheriff Peter Van Vleck and Coroner Kauffman were called to
the scene.  Kauffman reported that Ott died during the morning as the result of two
gunshot wounds, one in the stomach and one in the right temple.

Ott was born in Bradford, Canada.  He has no close relatives living.  His wife, the
former Jennie Houk, of Saranac, died in 1942.  They had lived near Saranac since
1928.  They had lived near Saranac in 1921 and then moved to Missouri where they
lived until 1928.

It was reported that Ott had been in ill health since the death of his wife.  His
body was removed to the Morris Funeral Home in Saranac.  Interment is at 2:00 p.m.
this afternoon in Saranac Cemetery.  Rev. Lowell Derscheid of the Free Methodist
Church will officiate.
