Burial took place Monday in the township where he lived. Mr. Outwater was a native of Wilson, N.Y., where he resided until enlisting with the Union troops in the early 60’s. After the close of the war he came to Portland, where he made his home until locating in Washtenaw county. While a citizen of this place he was active both in politics and church work. He served as village president and was at one time a member of the local school board. For years he was one of the deacons of the Baptist church and as such made many sacrifices to the society. In the conduct of his farm near Ann Arbor Mr. Outwater was assisted by his son, Olney. It was while the two were moving a quantity of household goods, preparatory to exchanging houses, that the elder Outwater sustained a slight injury to his finger, from which blood poisoning developed. Besides the son living in Washtenaw county, deceased leaves two other sons, Harry and Stanley, who reside at Denver, Colo. A daughter, Olive, is employed as a teacher at River Rouge, a Detroit suburb. Mrs. A. O. Browning and Mrs. A. B. Hixson, of Portland, are the only surviving sisters of deceased. An only brother, John Outwater, resides at Wilson, N.Y., the old home of the family.
