Max M. Ovenshire, 57, 719 North Wilson, Hastings, clergyman for the United Brethren church in Lake Odessa and Woodland area, died Sunday morning in Sunshine hospital in Grand Rapids where he had been admitted the day before. He had been in ill health several months. Born in Eaton county December 15, 1912, he was a son of Mark and Cecelia Ovenshire, and attended Charlotte high school. He graduated from Huntington Indiana college in 1946 after being married to the former Betty Morris of Charlotte, December 31, 1939. Ordained as a United Brethren minister, Rev. Ovenshire served in several parishes including Freeport, Pleasant Valley, Woodland, and Brown’s Corners near Clare, where he retired due to ill health. Surviving besides his wife Betty, is one daughter, Mrs. John Willette of Lake Odessa, two sons, Darrell of Detroit and James of Lansing; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Jones of Battle Creek and Mrs. Mildred Backofen of Charlotte; and two brothers, Ormel of Norwalk, Calif., and Clifford of Battle Creek. Also surviving is a foster father, Vern Day of Charlotte. The body is at Pickens funeral chapel in Lake Odessa until Wednesday morning when it will be transferred to United Brethren church in Charlotte where funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. March 18, the Rev. Isaac Osgood officiating. A memorial fund has been established by the family for the Camp of Living Waters at Baldwin and contributions may be left at Pickens funeral chapel. Burial will be in Maple Hill cemetery in Charlotte.
