OVERHISER Another Honored Pioneer Passes to the Other Side. Mrs. Dolly B. Overhiser died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Tibbits, at Greenville, at 2:00 o'clock this morning. Mrs. Overhiser was the daughter of Wm. and Julia Babcock, and was born in Hopewell, Ontario county, N.Y., January 21, 1812. She was married to Philo Bates in September, 1836. At this date Messrs. Babcock and Bates had sold their property in the east preparatory to emigrating to their new home in this county, and on October 10, 1836, they left old Hopewell,. Their entire journey was made by wagon, through Canada, reaching Ionia in about four weeks' time. Her wedded life with Mr. Bates was only a little over two years, he dying December 22, 1838. In the winter of 40-41 she married Rev. G.C. Overhiser, with whom she lived fifty years or nearly that time, when he was also taken away. Mrs. Overhiser made a profession of religion in early life, uniting with the Presbyterian church of Hopewell, and on the organization of the Congregational, now Presbyterian church, was one of the original fifteen, all having passed away save two. Mrs. Overhiser was in reality a pioneer. The piece of land south of the river, on which Deacon Babcock began when he started out was in a wild state. It may be said of her that she was a true American woman; her grandfather on her mother's side was a soldier in the Revolution, and her father an officer in the New York State militia, stationed on the Niagara river, when the British invaded and burned Buffalo and Lewiston in the ware of 1912. Her oldest son by Mr. Overhiser, George, enlisted in a New York regiment. She was the mother of four children: Philo T. Bates, of this city; George E. and James H. Overhiser, both deceased and Mrs. Elizabeth Tibbitts, of Greenville. She also leaves two brothers, Marcus Babcock, of Dakota, and Herman Babcock, of Petoskey; and two sisters, Mrs. E.M. Harter, of this city, and Mrs. E.O. Olark, of Lansing. We'll lay thee down, for thou dost need to rest a while in death's long sleep. Within the dark and silent grave, Where mother Earth thy dust will keep. The funeral will be held at Greenville at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. The remains will be brought here by the 6:30 train for interment in Balcom cemetery, Berlin.
