Eugene Harry Owen, 81, son of Joseph Henry Owen and Myrtle (Isenhath) Owen, and
husband of Constance (Fox) Owen, died peacefully on Sept. 19, 2007 surrounded by his
family, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.  Born on Feb. 20, 1926, Mr. Owen was a
life-long resident of Portland, Michigan and graduated from Portland High School in
1944.  

As a student, he enjoyed working at the Owen Pharmacy.  A veteran of World War II,
he served in the United States Navy and later attended Ferris State College.  He was
employed by General Motors Corporation for 33 years as a chemist, specializing in
rubber and plastics.  

After retiring in 1986, he pursued his interests in traveling, woodworking, journal
keeping, and corresponding with friends.  Active in American Legion Post 129, he
served as treasurer for seven years.  He was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish.

He was preceded by his parents and his brother, Dr. Edwin W. Owen.

Mr. Owen is survived by his wife of 60 years, Constance (Fox) Owen; his children,
Peggy (David) Dishop, Mary E. Owen, Michael (Rita) Owen, Kathleen (Robert) Russell,
James J. Owen; his grandchildren, Matthew (Michelle) Fifield, Jeffrey (Renee) Owen,
Mark J. Owen, Renee Irey, Rebecca (Ryan) Storzbach, Michael O. Russell;
great-grandchild, Nathan D. Fifield; inlaws, James and Josephine Fox, Donald and
Mary Ann Thelen, Daniel and Wilma Feather, Annette Owen; his nieces and nephews; and
his beloved feline friend, Fred.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Sept. 24, at St. Patrick’s Church, Portland with
Reverend Larry King presiding.  Rite of Committal followed at the Portland Cemetery.
 Arrangements were entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.  In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick’s Parish.
