Owen, Lyons, died Monday, Jan. 13 at 12:10 p.m. He was employed in the Hatch and Baker hardware store and performed his regular duties Monday forenoon, January 6 although suffering a chill sometime during the morning hours. It was not thought that he was seriously ill until the later part of the week. Charles Reuben Owen was born in Schuyler county, New York, December 11, 1863. He was the second son of Henry and Sarah Brown Owen in a family of four boys and two girls. At the age of eleven years he began to work for a farmer, continuing to farm for himself the rest of his life. When eighteen years of age he came to Flushing. Two years later he was married to Miss Hattie P. Torrey? to whom he had gone to school. The young couple came to Ionia county in 1885 and lived in the neighborhood of Palo for a number of years later moving to the vicinity of Muir. When unable to follow a team he became a clerk in the Hatch and Baker store in 1922. The year following he moved to Lyons. He was a rural mail carrier out of Muir for a number of years, served his township as treasurer and often cried auction sales. He was an active member of the Methodist church, serving as treasurer for twelve years, superintendent and teacher in the Sunday school and a member of the choir for nearly fifty years. His wife, Hattie, died March 24, 1933, and he was married to Mrs. Lucille Hawkins, Easter Sunday, 1934. Besides his wife, he leaves one son Harry Owen, of Grand Rapids, a daughter, Mrs. ___ Sp__n_, of Lyons, a brother, Fred? and a sister, Mrs. James Little? of Grand Rapids, one uncle, J__ Brown, of Flushing, and an aunt Mrs. Kate Brown, of Miami. The funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon his pastor Rev. L.M. Whittemore officiating.
