Ionia Sentinel, 2001

Donna M. Owens, 76, of Ionia passed away July 19, 2001 at Spectrum Health 
Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids.

She was born the daughter of Roy and Clara (Riehle) Marsh on Sept. 15, 1924 in 
Battle Creek.

Donna moved to Ionia in 1954.  She worked at Newell Manufacturing, the Ionia 
County News and the County of Ionia as a social worker; retiring from the State 
of Michigan, Dept. of Social Services, Barker Inc. where she helped her husband 
Ray.

She was a long time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ionia and she was a 
member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary Service.

She was an avid bridge player belonging to the Ionia Bridge Club and One’s 
Trailer Club and a member of the Travel Trailer Club Midwest.

A member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Sheridan VFW Post # 5065 and a member 
of the State Employees Retirement Association.

Surviving are two sons and four daughters, Terry Owens of Ionia, Carole 
(Raymond) Sanocki of Ionia, Claire (Richard) Crutts of Owosso, Patricia (John) 
Cherpes of Ionia, Debra (Dave) Montgomery of Ionia and James (Stephanie) Owens 
of Ionia; several grandchildren, Kenyon and Jamie Owens, Stuart and Nicole 
Owens, Jaime Owens, Lee Kirby Jr., Ben and Lynette Kirby, Kevin and Melissa 
Piggott, Johnny Cherpes, Elizabeth and Richard Zamarron, Joshua and Rob 
Montgomery, Melissa Montgomery, Joanna Owens and Shawna Haring; great 
grandchildren, Ashlynd, Haleigh, Jarryd and Blayne Owens, Nicki Owens, Justin 
Owens, Anita Seely, Alexis and Tessa Frye, Garrett and Parker Kirby, Brandon, 
Larissa and Trevor Piggott, J.D. and Keirsten Zamarron, Brianna Ardis, and 
Taylor Sylvia Wood; one brother, Warren Marsh of Battle Creek; numerous nieces 
and nephews.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray Owens on March 26, 
2000, and one brother, Roland Marsh.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the St. John’s 
Lutheran Church in Ionia with Rev. Paul Yanke officiating.  Interment in Easton 
Cemetery.  Visitation will be 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday and 2 p.m. to 4 
p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday at the Rich St. Chapel of Cook Funeral 
Home in Ionia.  In Lieu of flowers, you are asked to consider the St. John’s 
Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or the American Lung Association.
