Ionia Daily Standard - Mon. March 3, 1919


Rev. David J. Owens, father of Fred J. Owens of this city, died at his home in 
Crystal, Sunday, about noon, his son being summoned up there early in the 
morning. Rev. Owens had retired from the ministry on account of failing health 
and failing eyesight. He was a man of patient and cheerful disposition, big 
hearted and kindly. A Civil war veteran, he had prided himself on raising and 
daily unfurling the flag on the flagstaff in his yard. Besides his son in 
Ionia, he leaves a widow and a daughter, Mrs. De Young, resident of Crystal
