The church was crowded to honor the American boy who had given his life for freedom and righteousness, just as much as though he had died on the bloody fields of France. “Greater love hath no man than this that he lay down his life for his friend.” When that great pure civilization shall come into its own, it will not be forgotten that Sir Knight Gordon Owens gave his life that it might be so. It is unnecessary to dwell on the character of the young Ionian, since all know. The remains of Corporal Owens were escorted by the Knights Templar to Highland Park cemetery and placed in the Wager vault which was draped with the stars and stripes, and the star of gold in the midst of the flower wreath on the door paid tribute to the cause for which he died. Services were conducted by the F. & A. M. No. 86. As the funeral procession passed the home of Charles Lovrein on East Main street, that civil war veteran paid tribute to the young American. The flag for which he fought so many years ago was at half mast, the white head uncovered. Comrade Lovrein stood at attention until the last and beat of the drum had died away. Corporal M. E.
