The day before she attended the funeral of a neighbor and it is thought this excitement brought on the shock which caused her death. Mrs. Padgett was the granddaughter of the late Major D. Mills an early Ionia county pioneer who is said to have gathered the first crop of wheat in North Plains Township, simultaneously with Jay Olmstead, Sr., Hiram Brown, Hector Hayes and Silas Crippen.
