He was born Dec. 31, 1928, in Kent County, the son of Charles and Bertha VanHoose Palethorpe. Thomas married Barbara L. Johnson in Greenville on June 11, 1949. Together they raised three children with love, patience, guidance, morals, values and respect. Thomas was an armed forces veteran, having served with the U.S. Army. He retired from Frigidaire in 1990 after 44 ˝ years of service. His friends and co-workers called him “Cork.” Tom loved everything the great outdoors provided, including looking for morel mushrooms, smelt dipping, salmon fishing, camping, rides in the country to look for deer – he could always spot them before anyone else – fishing and hunting. Anyone who knew Tom shared in his love for hunting and fishing by listening to his enthusiastic stories. He also enjoyed watching his two grandsons play football. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Jepson; and three brothers, J.C., Albert and Charles Jr. Thomas was a great husband and father. He will be deeply missed and forever loved by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Debra Bentley of Belding; sons, Thomas and Deborah Palethorpe of Lowell, John and Gaila Palethorpe of Belding; grandchildren, Thomas and Traci Smith, Justin and Angela Palethorpe, Jenifer Palethorpe, Sara Palethorpe, all of Belding, Charlie Bliss of Wyoming, Amanda Bliss of Sheridan; great-grandchildren, Thomas Smith II, Olivia Palethorpe, Dakota and Joey Lanning, all of Belding; and brother, Roy and Leah Palethorpe of Greenville. Private family services will be under the direction of Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Interment will follow in River Ridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Heartland Hospice.
