"Zeke" Palmateer, 81, of Belding, passed away Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at home under the care of Hospice and her loving family. She was born Feb. 24, 1930, in Lodi Township, Ohio, the daughter of Virgil N. and Luzina F. (Williams) Shafer. Zeke, a long-term resident of Belding worked in assembly for Gibson's Manufacturing in Belding retiring with more than 35 year of service. She was a league bowler for many years and was an avid Tigers fan. If she was not home to watch the game it was always taped for viewing later. Zeke was a former member of the Eagles, American Legion and VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed the company of family and friends and her two dear pet poodles, Maggie and Sarah. Zeke's memory will be cherished by her family and all those who knew her, including the "love of her life", Robert "Mack" McCarthy; daughters, Starr Ann (Tony) Palecki of Hemet, Calif., Joetta Faye (Charlie) DeKlyen of Wyoming, Mich.; eight grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; sister, June (Ken) Myers of Hudsonville; and several nieces and nephews and friends. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge St., Belding. Visitation will also take place for one hour prior to the service Tuesday. A funeral service will take place 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Private interment will take place in River Ridge Cemetery. Those wishing to express sympathy are welcomed to consider a memorial contribution in Zeke's memory to Faith Hospice, the Humane Society or the veteran's organization of the donor's choice.
