Alfred J. Palmer, of Orleans, age 89, passed away on Friday, Aug. 15, 2008.  He
was born on May 23, 1919 in Orleans the son of Joel and Irene (Gleason) Palmer.
 Alfred enjoyed watching football and the Kentucky Derby.  He loved eating,
especially his wife’s cooking.  He loved his family and especially his
grandchildren.  Alfred was brought into this world by his grandmother, Nora who
virtually saved his life at birth.  He lost his father when he was 14 years old
in the Kerns Hotel fire in Lansing.

On Jan. 4, 1941, he married Helen Anderson in Ionia and she preceded him in
death in 1993.  He is also preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Reeves.

Surviving are his children Joel (Sharon) Palmer, Sr. of Orleans, Alfred (Beth)
Palmer of Walker, Nancy (Pete) Reeves of Orleans, Bill (Rhonda) Palmer of
Orleans and Sandy (Doug) Hausserman of Orleans; 17 grandchildren; 15
great-grandchildren with another on the way and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the
Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich St., Ionia.  Interment will be in
Orleans Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m., Tuesday at the
funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation
or to Shiloh Community Church in memory of Alfred.
