PARKS
Robert Frank Parks Sr. aged 83 of Grand Rapids formerly of Saranac passed away 
peacefully January 10, 2018 at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. He was born June
23, 1934 in Kalamazoo the son of Harold and Geraldine (Squires) Parks. Robert attended 
Kellogg Schools before entering the Navy at 17 years old where he served during the
Korean and Vietnam wars, being honorably discharged as a 1st class Gunners mate.

Robert married Carolyn Saugie December 24, 1954, she preceded him in death in 1994.
He later married Barbara Railling. After serving in the military he had various jobs
including farming, operating Back Hoe, running a milk route, merchant Marine and was a Captain
for his supply boat out of the Gulf of Mexico before retiring. Robert loved to hunt,
fish year around, garden and reminisce of his days in the US Navy.

Surviving are Barbara Parks; his children; Robert (Chris) Parks Jr. of Saranac and
Carrie Parks of Grand Rapids. Grandchildren; Carly Parks, Kayla (Matthew) Beckholt, Trisha
(Lee) Trevino, Cassie (Ron) Schnicke, Crystal Whitman, Chad (Stephanie) Whitman, Kylie
(Jon) Hornak, Maegan Parks, Josh Parks, Will Parks, Jarod parks, Tina (Nate) Scheid, Ben
(Elena) Dodge,Dan Dodge, Dave (Jessica ) Dodge. Great-grandchildren; Emilia, Ronan, Marlie,
Jordan, Isaac, Anna, Keegan, Grady, Silas, Sonny, Elliott, Miela, Emma, Natalie,
Kaylie, Teddy, Aliya, Jordan, Jakob, Audra, Steven and Hannah. Brothers; Cliff Parks of
Colon, Bill (Phyllis) Parks of Wellston, Jerry Parks of Bellevue and Joe Parks of Battle creek,
Sister; Ida Cobb of Florida.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Carolyn, Sons, Timothy Parks. Harold
"Tink" Parks, brother Harold Parks Jr. "Sonny" and sister Linda Lou.

Cremation has taken place and here will be aMemorial Service with Military Honors at
the Galilee Baptist Church in Saranac, Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at noon. Pastor Andy

Mooren officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to services. In
lieu of flowers those wishing may make memorial contributions to Grand Rapids home for 
Vetrans/No Member Dies Alone Program. Arrangements in care of Lake Funeral Home in
