Parr, retired Pere Marquette railroad man, and former Ionia, died at his home in Grand Rapids Wednesday evening about 9 o’clock. He had been in ill health for some time and for the past few days had been critically ill. Born in Yorkshire, N.Y., June 12, 1854, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Parr, he moved to Marshall when he was still a young boy. When he was about 20 years old he moved to Ionia where he took a job as firemen on the old D.L. & N railroad. At that time wood was used instead of coal. He was later advanced to engineer on the Pere Marquette railroad and he retired from that position 15 years ago after serving about 50 years. Following his retirement he moved to Grand Rapids six years ago. In 1875 he married Ella Cleveland of Marshall. She died in 1906. He later married Frances Aseltine. Surviving are the widow, Frances, three sons, Vern F., of Spokane, Wash., Emery A. and Herbert A. , of Lansing, two stepdaughters, Mrs. John Cunningham and Mrs. Maud Berger, both of Grand Rapids, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Bishop Hemeston of Jackson and Mrs. Ella Hendricks of Detroit. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the Stone funeral home. Interment will be held at Highland Park cemetery.
