Patrick, one of our foremost citizens, at the family home Monday evening, death being due to a bursted artery, which flooded the lungs, Mr. Patrick dying a few minutes after it happened. The family had retired for the night and before going to sleep he told Mrs. Patrick he was feeling fine and that he would try and get a good night’s rest. About eleven o’clock he roused up and began to cough and it was during one of these spells that the artery bursted. He was sitting on the edge of the bed at that time and later walked, with her assistance to the sitting room. Seeing the alarming condition in which he was in Mrs. Patrick ran across the road to summon the neighbors, but during the short moment she was gone he passed away. The deceased had been in poor health for over a year, but of late had apparently been on the gain and his sudden taking off was a severe blow to the family, as well as to all of us. At the time of going to press the funeral arrangements had not been completed, but it was tentatively understood that they will be held Sunday afternoon from the Baptist church, under the auspices of the Ionia lodge of Elks, of which the deceased was a long time member. The interment will be made in the family lot in East Plains cemetery. ---- Obituary William Henry Patrick was born June 8th, 1867, on the Patrick homestead, Lebanon township, Clinton county. He was the son of Benjamin S. and Harriet Corey Patrick, who were among the earliest settlers of Michigan and during their lifetime prominent in the social and business affairs of their community. The subject of this sketch was the youngest of four children: Corey Edward Patrick of Pewamo; Helen Patrick Winship, of Westbrook, Maine; and Lucy Patrick Caldwell of Chicago. He is also survived by his wife, Lottie Vance Patrick, and two daughters, Harriet Josephine aged six, and Juliette Irene, three years old.
