April 19, 2018 JANETT PATRICK, 81 Jenett E. Patrick, 81, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Saranac, passed away April 14, 2018. She was born on Dec. 1, 1936, in Grand Rapids the daughter of Donald and Ellura (Frost) McPherson. Janet was a graduate of Lowell high School, Class of 1954 and then received her master's degree from Michigan State University.She married Duane Patrick on Dec. 28, 1957 in Lowell. They were married for 57 years until his passing in 2014. Jenett was a teacher for Saranac Public schools for 25 years and a Realtor for 15 years. She was a member of Alto Methodist Church, Lowell Area Arts Council, Saranac Library Guide, Germaine Guide, a 4-H leader and book author. Jenett was a passionate educator who never stopped sharing the gift of knowledge with others. As a teacher for Saranac Public schools, Jenett cared for each student in her class room and wanted every child to be a success story. After retiring Jenett continued to be involved with education, sharing her love for arts and crafts with everyone who crossed her path. Whether teaching 4-H sewing groups, leading classes in art exchange programs, volunteering time reading to elementary school students and various organizations within the community, or crafting beautifully designed coats. Jenett lived and loved sharing art and design with the world. Anybody that spent time with Jenett also knew she was a phenomenal cook. Nobody left the Patrick home hungry, and you's better have saved room for dessert because one of Jenett's famous pies always followed each meal. If not crafting or cooking, Jenett could be found dressed in green and white, cheering on her Michigan State University Spartans. A faithful Spartan alumnus, Jenett attended hundreds of MSU football and basketball games over the years as a season ticket holder with her husband Duane. Above all else, Jenett loved and cared for people. She brought out the best in others and always found good in all people, sharing this love and compassion with her huge network of family and friends who in return loved her very much. Surviving are her children Jennifer (Rich) Wolbers of Grand Rapids, Tim (Susan) Patrick of Grand Rapids, Sheila (Kevin) McCarrey of Lowell; grandchildren Rachel Wolbers of Washington D. C., Stephanie (Will) Merritt of Charlotte, N. C., Connor McCarrey of Grand Rapids, Delaney McCarrey of Grand Rapids; brothers Peter (Joanne) McPerson of Washington, D. C., Alec (Karen) McPherson of Lowell, Bill (Maureen) McPherson of Lowell; sisters Susan Smith of Grand Rapids, Betsy Knox of Lansing, Mary (Chris) Gaffield of Ada; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Anita and Doug Sage of Saranac. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Duane and sister Margie Veliquette. A memorial service for Jenett will be held on Saturday, April 21, at 11 a.m. at Porter Hills Village 3600 Fulton St. Grand Rapids, 49546 with Pastor Nancy Claus officiating. Visitation will be Friday, April 20, 2-4 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. at the Lake Funeral Home in Saranac. in lieu of flowers those wishing may make memorial contributions to Kids Food Basket or Saranac School Library.
