He was born Oct. 12, 1926 in Sarasota, Fl. He was a veteran of WWII, serving with the United States Navy from 1944-1946, and in Korea with the United States Army from 1950-1952. He was a member of the Portland VFW #4090. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; stepdaughters, JoEllyn Guernsey of Ithaca and Julie Barnes of Portland; step-sons, Thomas (Brenda) Young of Perrington and Martin (Julie) Young of Lansing; seven grandchildren, Tiffanie, Thomas, Denel, Justin, Rebecca, Cammeron and Christy; one great-grandson Austin; stepmother, Jessie Patterson of Knoxville, Tenn.; two brothers, John L. (Betty) Patterson of Riverdale and Bertrand L. Patterson of Crystal Lake; five sisters, Daria Jean Notestone of Ormond Beach, Fla., Maryola Patterson, Sherry (Dave) Dunnaway, Brenda Lee Patterson and Lori (Ken) Gibson all of Knoxville, Tenn. Memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. at the Gorsline- Runciman Co. Neller Chapel, 210 Bridge Street, Portland, with the Rev. Scott Otis, pastor of the Portland United Methodist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends at the chapel one hour prior to the service.
